Laser Lakeland and Far North Grand Prix at St Mary's Loch Sailing Club

by Jonathan Nicoll 8 Oct 2013 20:50 BST 5 October 2013

The final event of the UKLA / Rooster sponsored Lakeland and Far North Laser Grand Prix series 2013 was held amidst the beautiful scenery surrounding St Mary's Loch Sailing Club on October 5th. A fantastic turnout of 15 local members of this friendly and welcoming club boosted the entry to 29 boats.

Three races were sailed back-to-back in a breeze that grew during the day and was always just shifty enough to make things interesting and as soon as the clouds blew off the tops of the Border hills the weather was bright and dry.

The first race was won by Haydn Griffiths sailing his Radial faster over the water than most of the full rigs with Andrew Hewitt 2nd and Richard Bryant 3rd. Richard won the second race from Stuart Belfield of Leigh & Lowton with Ian Fitzgerald 3rd. There was a different winner again in the final race which was taken by Andrew Hewitt to seal the win for the day on a last-race tie-break with Haydn who was second in this race with Richard 3rd.

Prize giving was preceded by excellent Scotch pies and included the presentation of the annual series trophies, and planning now starts for next year's events.

Overall Results:

1st Andre Hewitt (St Mary's Loch S.C.)
2nd Haydn Griffiths (Leigh & Lowton S.C.)
3rd Richard Bryant (Annandale S.C.)
