What's it all about?
Worcestershire School Sailing Association is delighted to share with Upton Warren Outdoor Education Centre the organisation of this national event at Upton Warren on the weekend of 1 and 2 October 2011 when thirty two teams of three sailors will travel to Worcestershire with a number of adult supporters.
During the course of two days, we plan to run in excess of two hundred races. This is a great opportunity for Upton Warren to show that a national event can take place on a small lake, with the help of around fifty volunteer helpers, mainly from Upton Warren Sailing Club, who also use the water regularly.
Unlike most other youth sailing events the NSSA National Team Racing Championship involves entries of teams of three sailors which require the youngsters to work together and support each other to deliver the best overall team performance.
Upton Warren has successfully hosted this event on three previous occasions, in 2010, 2004 and 1998. On all occasions, teams left Worcestershire having expressed a wish to return soon and enjoy the great competition and friendliness which our venue provided. We are looking forward to this opportunity again.
The Worcestershire School Sailing and Canoeing Association (WSSCA) is affiliated to and shares the aims and aspirations of the National School Sailing Association (NSSA). NSSA is the UK’s largest youth sailing club, and promotes sailing as part of the educational experience of young people. NSSA is a registered charity and was formed in 1961; WSSCA has operated for twenty six years at Upton Warren Outdoor Education Centre (UWOEC).
NSSA organise five national events each year in various venues around the country; these events introduce the sport of dinghy sailing to young people who have not participated before and offer opportunities for further development of young people who are already involved in our sport.
