Merlin Rocket Week at Salcombe Yacht Club - half way report

by John Murrell 14 Jul 2011 11:01 BST 9-15 July 2011

As always the 100+ boat fleet is split into 4 flights that race against each other in either a morning or afternoon. With 3 days of racing behind them the competitors in the have now all raced against each other and the form guide looks to be right. With 2 bullets and a third Simon Blake and Alex Jackson lead the way on 5 points from Jon Gorringe and Toby Lewis who with a consistent 3 2nds are on 6 points.

The weather has been very kind! The competitors have enjoyed typical Salcombe conditions varying from champagne sailing on Sunday through to the doldrums of the Bag on Monday and we have even seen boats passing each other sailing in opposite directions with their spinnakers flying!

The regatta is sponsored by Sharps Doom Bar for the third year in a row – something that the weary competitors appreciate after a long ‘Salcombe’ race!

As always the results are online on the Salcombe Yacht Club website
