Yorkshire & Humberside Youth at Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club

by Ian Escritt 11 Jun 2008 22:24 BST 7 June 2008

26 competitors attended with fleets of Lasers, Toppers, 405s and various others to be greeted with no wind (most unusual for this venue). However after a short delay the PRO managed to set a small but challenging course.

In these light conditions the Lasers came out on top with Josh Moran first followed by Tim Bronvell and Matthew Velamail. Some were left to rue missing a split in the fleet and went ashore wishing for better luck in the afternoon.

After lunch there were new faces at the front James and Morley in a RS200 stormed away winning convincingly from Stephen Smith in his RS300 Josh hung on in to finish third.

In the deciding race of the day the wind picked up (much to the screaming Meg Fletcher and Siobhan Escritt,s delight sailing a 29r) to a nice force 2, Stephen showed why he is the man to beat winning well from James / William and Josh.

This gave Stephen the event on count back. Toby Burhouse sailed well to be first Topper, and Sara and Helen Burgess first 405. With the series half way through there is no obvious front runner so it’s all to play for!

Overall Results:

1st Stephen Smith (Craven) RS300
2nd James/William Morley (Ulley) RS200
3rd Josh Moran (Otley) Laser
4th Matthew Velamail (Ulley) Laser
5th Tim Bronvell (Sheffield Viking) Laser
