Laser Open at New Quay Yacht Club

10/11 jul
Seven races were keenly and closely contested; it only took one small error to go from first to last! Seal won the first race, followed by Proctor and Keighley. Next, Keighley led Lockett and Davies over the line. Gradually, a tidal advantage led to the left side of the course becoming favorable. Seal took advantage and won the third race from Lockett and Keighley. In the last race, numerous lead changes finished with Lockett, Keighley and Seal battling hard, eventually crossing in that order.
On Sunday, the stronger breeze led to exciting conditions with plenty of position changing and capsizes. Keighley started with a win, Proctor and Cowell following. In the second race, however, Cowell beat Keighley and Proctor. Going into the last race, it was evenly poised with Keighley, Proctor, Lockett and Seal all in with a chance. Seal led the way with Proctor stalking. But Proctor sailed a better beat and passed Seal to win. However, Keighley was the deserved winner on count-back, his consistency being the key factor. The next event in the Grand Prix Series is in Saundersfoot – where everyone can be assured of another warm ‘welcome in the hillsides’.
