1)Favorite Class of Dinghy
The one i'm sailing in at the moment- B14
2)Best UK based Sailing club
Can only really pick this based on event venues. I enjoyed the welcome at Sheppey after Peaky and i broke the Icon, but Porthpean, host for the b14 nationals, shades it.
3)Greatest class association
(bias alert) i'm website editor for the B14 asccociation. Can't vote for anyone else
4)Best sailing clothing manufacturer
I've been really ahppy with my Gul thermals and BA, though I'm liking my Decathlon 3/2 steamer. um, I'll go Gul
5)Best parts manufacturer (sails, Masts, blocks, hulls etc.)
For all that people moan about auto ratchets, the Harken ones we have are now several years old, get massive amounts of abuse and are still tip top. harken. Because the kit we have just works.
6)Best customer service
dunno
7)Best website
Did you see the answer to 3) ? LOL Actually, perhaps not. If we're allowed to go outside of dinghies, and include video coverage, the AC World Series. Showing how that big-budget media circus sailing has finally, properly, come of age. if we do have to stick to dinghy classes, well, sorry, I don't tend to look at other classes, of those I have looked at nothing stands out.
8)Life time achievement award (Long standing class that’s consistently stayed fresh and successful)
Has any class been consistent? They all seem to go in fits and spurts. What counts as "long standing" and "stayed fresh"? The RS200- is that long standing enough? By far and away the biggest nationals of any "adult" boat for several years now.
9)Handicap event of the year
The only one I did was the Round Sheppey. Didn't get very far! But it seemed like a fun event- I'll be back, be it in a Icon (if Peaky or some one else will have me!) or a B14 (if Barry wants to give it a go) or something else entirely (an Osprey or 5o5 could be fun)

10)Most innovative class

Innovation is a bit of a dirty word, isn't it? It's the realm of "banditry". Many that think they're being "innovative" are simply rehashing old ideas, sometimes without consciously realising that's what they'd doing. Um, dunno.

1) favourite class - RS300

2) best club - joint winners: Hayling and Abersoch

3)class association - the international laser association! hahaha, yeah right. no seriously, the RS team work exceptionally hard (though i also really like watching the stuff that the MPSCA does)

4) clothing - loving the zhik wetsuit but my Gill thermal spray top was my no.1 purchase this year (and it potentially saved my life at the ridiculously cold Steve Nic)

5) parts - dunno, i'm a lazy SMOD sailing berk who's doesn't really get involved in the grubby stuff like that (kind of embarrassing when you're a shipbuilder...)

6) customer service - the tireless support during events from RS as evidenced by the near mythology surrounding the cult of Rob E

7) website - RS100sailing.com!!

8) lifetime achievement - moth?

9) handicap event - the steve nic was good (but cold), Glyn Charles was great

10) innovative class - not really understanding the moth-love going on from everyone else as they haven't really evolved much in the last 3-4 years since the Mach2 came along. if the wing sail has shown a real breakthrough then i'd agree but just like the A-cats about 3 years ago it hasn't been the big leap forward hoped for. it's not really a dinghy but i'll say mini-transat: in the year in which a weird scow-bow trumped everyone that took real balls to make the leap.

Something I learned in my days in the motor trade: it doesn't matter how good an organisation or company is, there will still be people who hate them, and it doesn't matter how mediocre one is, there will still be people that love them.
WPNSA does have great facilities, no doubt about that, but personally I'd still rather sail from Castle Cove if I was in Portland harbour.

AS true as that it, I was basing it on the fact that if I had to choose one single place to sail the rest of my life it would be there. I'm not sure of any other places where I can go to the gym 2 minutes after getting off the water, and also currently my main focus is racing and getting better at it, which although some people might disagree with me, it's what I enjoy most. Having such quality sailors just walking around the boatpark that are always willing to stop for a chat or some tips is something that IMHO can't be replicated anywhere else.
