Who's been to the Southampton boat show?

Is it worth a visit for rubbernecking and shopping for bits or just full of huge ships with keels and motors we couldn't afford if we wanted them?

I can get in for cheap but it's an expensive 6 hr round trip by train!

Opinions please

I went today - as a dinghy sailor I was really disappointed (I was actually on a mission to buy 3 trapeze harnesses and came away with none), just too much focus on larger boats and its really not as friendly as it used to be (with the exception of the RYA stand, Calshot and sail wales where the people I spoke to were great). Having been every year for the last 5 of so I won't be going again for a long time (although I think I said that last year - and this year was worse).

Not been for a long time but it was always disappointing the dinghy stuff can't be rigged up since it is all outside.

I did however win the pit stop challenge on the honda stand and get my free Jenson Button clothing range so its all good!

yeah its a slightly strange looking boat, I was a very very yachty event. Though I was impressed at the two tallships through the show.

i went on friday evening, it was ok to start with but it got so boring, theres only gin palaces and motor sailors once you get over a couple of bridges. i missed the new laser boat but my sister and i managed to find the one stand at the show that sold trapeze harnesses, Andark.

Hugo Boss and that end of the pontoon was the most interesting bit i think.
