Last weekend did the 'Round Two Tree' circumnavigation. Daughter and me in my Laser, son and daughter of friend in his Topper. 2 hours to get round. It was warm and the breeze filled in.
Sometimes the simplest things are the most fun...

Nothing warms the cockles like seeing a laser on its side

Sometimes the swallows and amazons stuff is just the best!  Even the pro's head off and do it occasionally...

Are you walking boat under the bridge to get to the other side ?

It's nice to give the competetive tensions of racing a break. There is nothing better than just having fun in boat, in the sun, with friends and family.............the jib's not sheeted right or the boat's not perfectly upright? So bl**dy what, I'm relaxed and don't care, I'm having fun.

Nice reminder Mark.

423zero, yes, there is not enough clearance, so we swam the boats under. We were going with the wind and the tide, so there was quite a lot of force, and very little grip in the soft mud.
It was a bit worrying at times!

I took a laser out the other week- I’d forgotten how much fun they are reaching and sailing downwind in powered up 14 knots with waves... going back uphill again, not so much fun, especially without the spirit of competition to take the pain away!

Crewing in a Bahia once with a very vocal helm, I thought he's gone quiet, turned round to have a look, he wasn't there, he had fallen overboard, he was bobbing about in the water about 100 foot behind.

I think it's time I organised an intervention, all these weekends away from the real world is clearly effecting your mental health.

The real world of organising passes with the family, grey bacon, grey skies and the M3/A34 to get to somewhere with proper sailing in boats worth owning...

N’ah thanks, I’ll keep the beach, windsurf kit and paddleboards (plural), plus the smiling faces of the girls as they get to live a proper outdoor childhood. And if / when I am here permanently myself, I’d get a Laser too as they seem to have some good lighthearted racing at the sailing club. Not here enough to do everything I’m afraid...

Edit: the beach and surf centre just works better for family time at the moment, hence the focus towards that end of town rather than the marina where the Lasers are.

...or is it a cunning plan to keep them away from expensive horses? Seem to remember that was the flavour of the month once.

Fortunately the English weather got the better of the horse addiction! Not to mention horsey parents ... they make OptiMum Prime look mellow, open and welcoming... life out here suits us better - no car (rent one if we need it), lower cost of living - a beer can be found for under a Euro, really ‘broad church’ of friends from different places, cultures and backgrounds and above all, beach life only a 15 minute bike ride away... it could be closer, but we prefer living in the middle of the city.

Long term I’d like another boat out here, but no sense I’m missing out right now and there’s options to charter as when too.
