Hi

I need a replacement battery, the battery is a ML2430-HZ1

The place I bought them before has closed. I can buy in the states but they won't ship to the uk.

Any one got any helpful ideas?

How did you open it up? My battery is also dying, but I couldn't get into it to see what battery was used

I recently bought one from 'Cell Pack Solutions' .
https://cellpacksolutions.co.uk/products/batteries/maxell-ml2430-hs1-lithium-coin-cell-battery-pcb/
The rim connection set-up is a bit different - but I managed to solder it onto the board OK.
The battery was fully charged - and the Tacktick works fine.

Anyone else have a lead?

This looks like it might be close enough to work.
It's, rechargeable, the right 3.0V, has pins for a PCB.
Only 50mAh instead of 100, and the pins may not be in exactly the right place.
https://www.rapidonline.com/panasonic-vl2330-1hfe-50mah-rechargeable-button-cell-lithium-3v-1-pc-s-59-6045

another place to look:
https://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/batteries/rechargeable-batteries/coin-button-rechargeable-batteries/?applied-dimensions=4294845777&sort-by=Capacity&sort-order=desc&pn=1
Is there space for a bigger diameter?

or here:
http://uk.farnell.com/w/c/batteries-chargers/batteries-rechargeable?battery-voltage=3v&st=lithium+rechargeable
It looks like you won't get 100mAh in 24mm diameter these days.
Coin cell numbers are e.g. 2430 = 24mm diamter, 3.0mm thick BTW.

HTH?

Obviously check the polarity if fitting a slightly different part.

is it the small market that stops a manufacturer coming to the market with a competing product with a replaceable battery? tacktick seem to have lost the replacement market to the diy replacers and they must be losng more sales than the few gained because batteries are not easily replaced? surely a new supplier would clean up?

Velocitek Shift offers a replacement battery; has higher initial price, but will level off if/when you replace the battery.  Has bigger numbers, compass displays during countdown and smarter compass.

Hi, I have a few ML2430-HJ1 batteries.

I had to buy a minimum quantity from mercateo when I needed to replace the batteries in my daughters Tacktick. The replacement was simple and compass started working as soon as I soldered this in.
Including postage I will sell for £9 each.

The new prism is amazingly good.

This tack-tick I promised to fix for a mate and have been looking for a battery since I started this thread..

Surely the battery replacement market is pretty slim anyway?
My tacktick is pretty old and has not needed a battery.
I don't race at night and it spends a lot of time on a window cill FWIW.
It's about time there was a much cheaper product though!

Is it better to leave an unused tactic in the light or dark?

In the winter mine is in its pouch. Is that bad for the battery?

TackTick say that the compass must be charged in bright sunlight, the pouch turns the unit off but I probably wouldn't leave it for several months without topping it up (and WTF one gets 'bright sunlight' from in a UK winter I'm bu99ered if I know).

I would love a Tacktick but just can't bring myself to spend a couple of hundred quid on such a badly designed device.......

I may end up buying a Velocitec Shift eventually, expensive, even by TackTick standards, but they seem to have got the basics right.....

I’ll dig it out and put it in the conservatory.
