Just noticed that Giles Scott isn't at the Finn Europeans - With Rio only 5 months away (As I heard continuously over the weekend watching the Cycling World Track Champs) is he taking a risk by focussing on BAR and not competing in the Finn?

I have no insight to his training, etc and in no way trying to out think things - but racing against the top Finns 5 months out from Rio would have not been good practice?

just throwing it out there..

Several other top sailors aren't there, either.  At least Tapio Nirkko, Jonathan Lobert, and Max Salminen are missing.

I spoke with Tapio's father a couple of weeks ago (we're in the same club) and he said it's a conscious decision for their whole training group to avoid big regattas at this point, and rather concentrate on things like sail testing.

Whether this strategy pays off, we'll find out in August.

Is the euro's venue anything like Rio?  Is he short of race experience?  No and no, so I'd say he'd need a much better reason to go than just because it's the euro's.  There's better ways to run a campaign than to just turn up at every event on the calender.

Also the Euros is a massive fleet (and of variable quality) compared to the Olympics - its not the same sort of event at all

Looks like Giles has his Rio preparation under control...

bit of an understatement; 4th worlds title just wrapped up with a 21 point margin going into the medal race.

So he now has second most world titles - who has most? (EDIT: ok googled it, I hadn't realised Ben won that many Gold cups)

Two amazing sailors Clap

Still needs to brush up on his startline technique then he wouldn't have to work so hard in that old tub.
