new owner of a seawych 19, unable to step the mast at the moment due to a missing part which prevents me from connecting the forestay to the deck, some kind of bottle screw device I believe, does anyone know the correct size or type needed, have tried 4mm and 6mm bottle screws without success,

If you can provide a photo(s) of the two ends you're trying to connect, that might help someone advise you.

Fix a shackle to the stem fitting and step the mast, securing the forestay to the shackle with a line. Measure the distance between the end of the forestay and the stem fitting (not the shackle). Take a photograph and the measurement to your local yacht chandlers. Simples.

Yeah, a bottlescrew. Perhaps an imperial size if its between 4mm and 6mm.
If you can locate a local second hand yacht parts emporium that might be the easiest option: take the bottom piece down and try loads until you get one that fits.

It's possible that the bottlescrew thread is unique to the cone type of rigging ends so perhaps you should look for a rigging shop rather than any old yacht chandler.
