I watched it on the BBC Red Button. Sailing looked good, ruined by the commentary from Gary Jobson. In typical American style he talks as if all people watching do not just know nothing about sailing, but as if they are all f*****g idiots...

Sorry - I've no idea why the ISAF video was not set to allow UK viewing. I did chase them up over it.

Apparently there was some legal issues with allowing UK viewers to see the Youtube video, since the BBC were also broadcasting from the event.

Too right. I just 'caught up' with the medal races.

The commentary was dire at times, and I was fast forwarding through the competitor interviews, where I could almost have written the scripts myself. The latter aspect also applies in other sports such as F1. Of the sports I watch, only in road cycling do you sometimes get a an extra bit of insight.

Some of the tactical errors were glaring too, not covering etc., but the wind was tricky on that last day.   Boat handling, by contrast, was generally a treat to watch.

Watching the RSX reminded me of my own difficulties tacking - I'd expected slicker. Did not tempt me to get back on a board.

Finally, why, when boats are generally at their fastest and most spectacular reaching, were courses for all windward-leeward? OK for 49ers, but Lasers, 470's? Presumably all part of the dumbing-down for TV. Not so much sport as entertainment for Joe Public (who turns off anyway).
