Most of you will know I land yacht.

Could you all spare a couple of moments to help?

One of the UK's few land yacht clubs is facing eviction from there MOD owned sailing site. Due to the MOD moth balling the clubs air field where they sail. The land is not going to be sold for housing or other use, just moth balled until the MOD need it again. But the land yacht club have been asked to leave regardless by the end of March. And as you can imagine finding an alternative sailing site in the UK is quite difficult. Meaning in all likelihood, the loss of a precious sailing sport resource. Please help save a valuable land yacht sailing site by signing this petition.

Sorry to hear this and happy to sign, but will a petition realistically get any traction?

I don't know the detail of the MOD's plans but if they plan to "mothball" the base, that is usually a precourser to getting rid of it. Government spending is only going in one direction.  If it is going to become a perminantly closed off area they would have to find somebody to supervise any civilian access to the site for the usual 'elf and safety and other security reasons etc.  That is most unlikely to happen in the present round of MOD cuts.

Maybe worth letters to the local MP and the Minister for Sports and Culture?  Any possibility to relcoate?  There must be lots of old airfields in the area.  Duxford??
