I've doodled all sorts over the years - but I was thinking maybe 13 feet long with plenty of rocker still. The bow shape would be vital, but the longer length would mean the mast could be further aft and so have more volume under it. However, I've got caught up with playing with Minisails and Lightnings (both of which teach a lot about the effects of hull shape on performance in different conditions) so new designs are on a back burner for a good few years yet. |

Yes! I'm very impressed you have built your spreadsheet and I can easily understand your reluctance to share as-is. I live in hope you will release it to the world at some point, It could have its own forum for the ensuing debates! |

Could take a leaf out of sailwave's book and donate the spreadsheet to the sailing world free of charge! |

I wondered why the baseball kept getting bigger. Then it hit me. |

Alas, it makes Sailwave look positively user-friendly! It's just a tool for me; it's not something I'd be proud to present to the public, but if you have a specific query let me know what it is.

Off to Frensham Frenzy on Sunday (11 March) with the X1 (#6) from the show - first time on the water for the latest hull, so anybody who wants to look at very shiny plastic or perhaps get a sail in her, we'd love to see you there.

Forecast for Sunday and the next month looking warm, dry and calm - should be ideal for the X1

We are off to Salcombe Regatta tomorrow. Our racing is in the mornings so if anybody wants to see or try the X0 or X1 (I think Chris will be bringing both rigs), do come along - ideally give Chris a call (see www.X1dinghy.co.uk).

Salcombe Regatta Race 1, X0 beaten by all the Merlins, but beat all the RS400s - clearly a race for the slower boats! It has to be admitted I did appalling beats, not knowing when to be on which shore against the tide.
Very happy with the new mast and quite a bit of interest in trying it out. |

More likely shows the advantage of a spinnaker over a gennaker in confined waters. |

True! Today it was a bit breezy and the difference was even greater. I haven't looked at the results yet but it might be only two Merlins ahead of us. |
