Topic: Which one - Advice Please Posted: 05 Mar 05 at 3:33pm |
My husband has asked for a 'Sea Pathfinder' watch made by Casio for his birthday. Simple I thought, go and buy one...... but no there are more models of 'Sea Pathfinder' than any other watch I have seen. Can anyone advise me as to the best one for yachting (several seem to be more diving or general watersports orientated) So far I am thinking of the: SPF40-2VER - £114.99 SPF40T - £159.99 SPF40-1VER - £109.99 What is the difference in functionality, is the most expensive one just a better strap ? Are these prices any good ? (they include postage) or can I get it cheaper elsewhere. Or would you recommend a different watch ? The same site has a SPF70 for £99.99 but this seems more suitable for general watersports ? Any advice would be appreciated.

ohhh my sea path finder was about £20. it depends on what you want the watch to do. the normal sea path finder that I have does tides, but i dont know what else you would want. |

That is very cheap - all the new ones seem to be over £100 and some over £200. We have done some more research and the SPF40 normal not titanium, seems to be the best value and the place we are ordering it from seems to be the cheapest too. See Here for its features. He wants a digital compass, tides, temperature etc etc just like a man ! Why he can't just use his compass and thermometer ! |

Thanks anyway, I'm not sure if my husband wants the watch to help his sailing or because the instruction book looks very complicated........ although it can't be that, as men never read instruction books |

Sue, sods law dictates that it will be the most expensive one, and you are right about instruction books. Why don't you have a look on the casio web site www.casio.co.uk

Does your huby sail a dinghy or a yacht?? One of the cat sailors at our club bought one of these with a compass and is now trying to sell it again - the compass only tells you which way the watch is pointing, not the boat (they aren't that clever). The problem is your wrist is never in the same place so it looks good but isn't particularly practical... If you are on a yacht where life isn't moving quite so fast it might work better... SOrry if that sounds negative, but worth thinking about. |

Hi again, its for a yacht - he's too old for anything faster than me ! We went for the SPF40, ordered yesterday, came today. I have now been told which direction is North in every room and he even took the dog for a walk to charge the solar panel thingy - you should have seen the look on the dogs face, he must have thought he was off to the vets as thats the only place my husband normally takes him At least with the compass he was able to find his way home OK ! Seriously though, he is very pleased with the watch, and the very fast service of the company we bought it from, and best of all was the price Thanks for all your feedback; just off to find which direction the kettle is in !
