Topic: Dart 18 rudder Posted: 13 Jun 08 at 12:52pm |
Looking for quick tips. My dart 18 rudder has a split along the leading edge. I noticed it was damaged, but thought it was superficial. Anyway, I noticed that water is going to get in the rudder construction via this split, so really needs repairing before it gets used again. Can I just use a hacksaw blade or knife to clean out any debris in the spilt and then add some gel coat filler to seal it. Or am I looking at something more complicated? Any input / suggestion etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if its just a gel coat crack i;d get a demel and grind down and make a u shaped groove and fill with gel coat. if its a bigger crack i;d grind off with a dremel and use some epoxy and glass tape to bond together then finish off with gel coat
