I must have mug written across my forehead, as I'm now sailing secretary for both sailing club and class association but it got me thinking could there be a section on the website similar to the crew search section where classes could look for suitable venues and clubs advertise events that could incorporate class open meetings. It is a problem for smaller classes that we can't attract massive numbers for open events so we're either looking for other classes to share events with, venues that are holding a general open meeting that don't mind putting an extra fleet start on for a specific class or smaller clubs willing to host events for smaller fleets. A good idea. My club - Yorkshire Dales SC - has, over the last few years, hosted a number of events for various classes . These Include National Fat Face events for RS200 and RS800, regional RYA Masters and Youth events, and events for Vortex, Mirror, N12, Windsurfers and others. We are willing to be innovative and for instance, this year we are running an exciting 'Slalom' event for the RS300s. As well as 'Class specific' events, we have at least three events that any class could piggy back onto. These are either of the two Windward-Leeward events we hold in the Spring/Summer and Autumn, OR the 'Grimwith Grapple' held in July. For those events, we have previously run seperate starts or if preferred, taken class results out or indeed run a seperate course if warranted by numbers. Find out more at http://www.yorkshiredales.sc or PM me for more. Edited by Hector |

Hi Gareth, which of your hats are you wearing today? We had seven 'northern' 3000s at Killington (M6, J37) for a one-day open in June, which was a great venue with excellent organisation by Sedbergh School. I wondered whether we could maybe visit Leigh & Lowton as our northern venue in 2008? There's another 3000 and a Vago recently joined the club. Other club/ north-west trapeze assymetrics could potentially team up for an open, probably with a PY>950 limit due to the size of the water? We could use one or two starts depending on numbers. Wadja think? |
