This year’s FOM will be over the weekend of 5th/6th October at Broxbourne SC. I know that some of you have fast boats and are reluctant to bring them to Broxbourne so we have an arrangement for some rental boats at a low cost. Possible rental classes are Wayfarers, Flying 15, RS Qbas, Laser 1, RS Fevas. I also may be able to add a few tasty loan boats into the mix. We can camp on site
and a bar extension for the Saturday night, after the FOM 2013 formal dinner, has been agreed to minimise the risk of raucous changing room parties.

Format to be 8 races (4 each day) with races 4 and 5 being swap boat races to be scored separately from the overall results and not
compulsory. 1st signal to be at 13.00 on the 5th and no signal after 13.00 on the 6th October allowing for late arrival on the Saturday and early departure on the Sunday.

Region C or B for me, but not preferably somewhere with a little more space than Broxbourne.

I voted Broxbourne because I thought the size of the lake really suited the format.  The wind was light everywhere this weekend and drifting around a bigger course at say, QM or Datchet would have killed the boat on boat racing that seemed so 'on it' at the weekend.

They couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming, but if the bar stayed open a bit longer that would have been a bonus.

(edit: Neptune... honestly no one seemed to care about the handicaps, and you'd have had a good race in any 12-15ft singlehander there, boat-on-boat, pretty old school.  So even if you'd spreadsheeted down the bottom with your 860 handicap, it really, really wouldn't have mattered.)

One problem of Broxbourne was the size as the fast boats couldn't get going, however that was also a strength in it kept everyone together to make it a more sociable affair. I think it depends on whether we want it to be serious or fun and if it's the latter is that best served by the small intimate courses or big blasting ones? Also with more water the courses may be too large for short race formats.

Well said James, The handicap/Boat speed argument was firmly out of the window and nothing more then a light bit of Banter.  Even Maxi was having a bit of a moan about PY's and he sails a Phantom.  it was all in jest.  To be honest, i was not interested (or even knew what the Finn PY was) i was racing for Line honors as best i could.  It would be very hard to make a Blaze, D-one, 100, Musto, 400 compete with something like a Solo round that lake.  Tacking quickly, spotting the shifts and getting some form of clear air and start was what it was all about.  Yes you would of struggled with the Musto, but to be honest it would not of mattered.  It bore no reflection on anyones ability other then the guys at the very top.  I do worry that holding the event on a slightly larger bit of water would lose some of its charm.  Although a slightly bigger start line would help...

I've voted for B&C, but somewhere one side or the other of the vertical black line would be ideal for me.

Broxbourne was great, though, so wouldn't object to that, either, but variety might be nice.

The trouble with the sea is that normally it means that it will always be miles from some people. How about one the lakes around brum rather than further East to the big ones.

I do agree with russ that it may lose the charm of the event by sailing somewhere too big. I think Broxbourne was ok apart from the launching.

And yes my py moaning was in jest....

Yes it would be nice for a bit of sea borne revenge, I didn't let it bother me, but the dear old shagged out EPS's with their crap handicap could have spoiled it if there had only been the one of us, as it was we had a nice little battle down at the back getting our arses handed to us by fraggle in her radial, we were lucky Rupert & Rupertson didn't stay another day to join in the arse kicking.

So I'm torn, I guess if it has to be inland then I'd vote Broxbourne just because they're so cool about us and the way we want to do things.

But I'd love to try a coastal venue, maybe an estuary as I know you'd wet your knickers if you faced a proper shore dump, so say Whitstable, Southend, Blackwater, or dare I suggest Hill head, in fact thinking about it, we should perhaps consider offering the venue choice to the winning participant then move down if it's not possible then if it went on for a while some one would get to host it and not have to travel, what's your home club Rodney is it viable.

A is out because chances are there would be Northerners there and everyone knows they can't hold their drink, B is out because it contains wales and there should be no opportunity for this group to be tempted by bestiality, so it's C because it does contain Broxbourne.

Whats wrong with everyone - now you want concensus out of 'forumites' or wot - the weekend 'love-in' gone to your heads now ...   ?

Not that I sport one on Icon myself  (or Blaze come to that) but the asymetrics were barely getting around / going at Broxbourne (now just maybe that is a 'good' thing) ...  But I think Inland is more suitable to ensure we get fast turnarounds and  being able to see the racing from the clubhouse is good as well

I'd volunteer Burghfield if they would have us .. as a reasonable compromise of size, location, access, camping and bar facilities but who says they would have us !?  They barely put up with me and Andy 'the dancing farmer' as it is  ... so I'll leave that one to Rodney / Mark to ponder over and make any approaches.  It would be good to rotate around several suitable locations ovet time anyway.
