Having read the full protest report, it does suggest that Simon has been a complete d**k. How closely it matches reality I am sure most of us will never know, only Simon is in a position to let us know what was really said and I imagine that the RYA will censor him so we'll probably never know.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but surely he should have stopped and then made a request to the measurer/committee to wipe the dust off the other side of the keel prior to relaunch?????? |

There was coverage on Channel 4... There was an interview with the SKUD sailors earlier on and an Interview with Helena Lucas later...

the lack of footage of the sailing isn't the fault of Channel 4, it is the fault of OBS. There's several sports, even indoor ones (fencing for example), that have had no live feeds available. Disgraceful on the part of OBS/the paralympics themselves- all sports should be fully available to broadcasters. As for Simon? Guess the only way you'll get his version of events will be over beers. I'd fully expect him to NOT talk about it to the press, on forums etc. |

Cash, I would think. In the same way that the rowing coverage was a fraction of the Olympics coverage. But many fewer events to follow push cost/event way up.

From a casual viewer standpoint you wouldn't have known there was paralympic sailing, I wonder if it would have made the press as big as it had today without the controversy. As to what happened, doesn't matter who you are, it's been my experience, never never argue or irritate measurers, adjudicators or refs whatever the sport, they always win, you'd think a previous Olympian might know that tbh.

Team manager for saling should take full responsibility, as he does the hiring and firing of bosuns. perhaps they should have stuck with there orignal bosun rather than sacking him prior to the event. Edited by Neal_g - 07 Sep 12 at 1:17pm |

Having dedicated 10 years of their lives to their Paralympic campaign, it must be devastating for the GBR Sonar crew to lose out on the Bronze Medal as a result of the arrogant attitude and unprofessional actions of a fellow "team member", who repeatedly failed to obey the clear and unambiguous verbal instructions of a member of the race committee. Commiserations must go out to the Sonar crew.

So true, funny I've just met my nephew, who's now wondering what to do with his life now the road to Rio is closed. What must be really galling, for athletes like him who have dedicated their lives to their sport and are now just dumped, is that those 'jobs for the boys' just carry on peddling their dubious bullsh*t advice to the next batch, quite how the RYA and it's trainers can simply step into kitesurfing, not knowing the first thing about it is just beyond me, but they have, no doubt the failed ping pong psycho will be helping the kite surfers with their self esteem after failure next, f**k you couldn't make it up.

Rather harsh, unless you were there to hear exactly what actually happened, see all the body language etc and are an expert on interpreting it all. One story being released to the press is that the guy thought that the measurer was joking. It seems pretty unlikely, but then so does the whole sorry episode. |
