Topic: Stolen Laser kit this weekend Posted: 29 Aug 05 at 9:17am |
On Friday night I had ALL my Laser & sailing kit stolen from my car in Hartlepool just before the Qualifier. I am in the process of sorting out the insurance claim, but if anyone sees any of the following kit for sale - don't touch it, report it to the police, or send me a message: Radial sail: GBR 165223 rolled around a pole in red Radial bag with the sail no on. Sail was stamped at Hyeres & the Europeans this year. Centreboard & rudder (stamped with Europeans 2005) in Rooster foil bag with the sail no. on My entire toolkit was nicked; epoxy, rivets, spares etc etc (I don't expect to see any of this again) but it was in a clear box with a Belgacom sticker on & my sail number. Also a small clear plastic box with gel coat resin, catalyst & roll of jap tape. My sailing bag - black with red handles (Westways sails mark) with some Queensport hikers (bit knackered), Gill yellow buoyancy aid, Gill grey spray top, Xtremity boots, Aigle boots & also a big clear plastic box full of thermals (Helly Hansen), rash vests, bikinis, sox etc. I really don't expect to see any of this again but it was such a massive clear out, including my sleeping bag & posh comfy roll mat, though they left behind my old spars, old sail & car radio. You might ask why was all this kit in my car - it was all covered up by a sheet so unless you knew what you were stealing you wouldn't have taken all this stuff. Incidentally I managed to borrow foils, a sail & clothes to race (badly) in on Saturday, so the 800 mile round trip wasn't totally wasted. Keep your eyes peeled and thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear this Sarah. It's rotten especially as it's all stamped etc and nobody will dare use it. What a pointless thing to do. Our car was opened last week but they left everything. On saying that, Cliff Richard Cds aren't too healthy for anyone's ears, that's why my other half is allowed to keep them in the car, they're better than a guard dog. Hope you get sorted out quickly. |

That is a real arse. Sometimes you hear of toolboxes or wetsuits/lifejackets going missing and you assume it's some scumbag who's nicked someone's jetski and needs to kit to go out in. But the fact it's proper boat bits sucks. Hope you find it...

Thanks for all your messages. Boat insurance has been fab, so aside from my tool kit which I can't claim for I have a new sail & foils and new sailing clobber so at least I can get on the water at last. The car insurance is more pants as they wanted to write off the car as the windows were going to cost so much. So I am going to have to fork out for 3 new windows. Hopefully however I will still be able to travel to events soon.
