lol- I'm by no means advocating banning or indeed scraping handicap racing, each to their own. It's just on a priority list of how I'd spend my free time, dinghy handicap racing is below other things that are not so weather/light dependent.
I would however like to continue to race dinghies locally at my club as I don't have the time (nor really the inclination) to drag a boat halfway across the country to do it. So the options open are Solo or Laser... and it's at this point where I say to myself, 'is that it?'

Supernova is light, fast and good value. Very nice to sail and generating a great deal of interest at my club.
20-30 new boats this year so worth a look.

supernova is a great boat, loved mine, and i know their are some a draycote.
BUT the question is, which class( supernova or rs300) is more likely to grow at draycote in the next year? |

good question... tbh, I'd join either, although have preference for the 300 as I prefer the look of the rig. I think the 300 offers something significantly different from the Laser. Whereas the Supernova is just 'nicer'. If I were 75kg I'd probably still follow the heard and get a KWSB Laser rather than the 'Nova for what is on offer.

Well each to their own on looks, but having had both, the Supernova rig may not be carbon, but is a lot more adjustable and works well. 300 is a great boat, but much harder work.
Difference between the Laser and the Nova is now much more than just 'nicer'. The Laser feels like a shed in comparison - Heavy, painful, lousy rig etc. Sail them back to back (and I still have both ) and there is no comparison. There probably will always be more Lasers at any club, but where Supernovas get a hold they seem to become very popular quickly. We probably have 25 Lasers at the club, but no more than 4 or 5 ever seem to race.

Thanks Simon- I remain open minded on both. I'd probably have no trouble in getting a ride in a Nova at some point to test it, I lent Stuie a Laser for a while before he bought a nova.

What is the day sailing rate at DWSC now? I might be persuaded to come up for the odd Sunday or two over the summer just to get some sailing against other 300s between the opens.

£20 - limited to 5 per year (inc class opens)
It makes sense for groups to make use of this- 5 decent days of fleet races per year, nice and centrally located. One minor snag... officially no day sailing on Sundays for dinghies (and no weekend day sailing at all for boards) so it would best be coordinated via the office/committee

Why am I not surprised, these penny ante poxy clubs, clinging onto their pathetic bits of water keeping anything that they vaguely feel 'threatened' by at bay, it makes me puke, it's no wonder windsurfing never caught on at club level, we have the same cretinous attitude down here, those Bozos at Bewl treat us the same way, meanwhile sailing evaporates around them, don't they get it? Humans who sail boards might just like to be humans that sail other stuff.... F.uckwits.

You'd find some fans for that on the DWSC forum in the windsurfing section... the truth is the club needs the membership income and parking on busy days is tight, therefore no one wants to rock up to the club they pay an annual fee to use just to find a few day sailors have nicked all the good spots and you have to dump your kit and walk half a mile from the other car park.
There's a also a big assumption you could actually administer and then police the day tickets too. Personally I want my membership fees to keep the safety cover looking out for hazards and incidents- not buzzing around trying to evict 'non-payers' off the lake with little to no effect, no doubt the scabs would become 'repeat offenders' and 'usual suspects'. The turnstile jumpers at the Snowdome are well known.... FWIW- I'd chuck day sailing out completely- irrespective of your rudder requirements, but keep guest sailing- e.g. you can invite a friend say 3 times a year and sign them in and pay a nominal amount, a good way to test out what's on offer before joining. But the pay n' play brigade can go down the coast and spend their money on fuel instead for all I care.
