Classes prepared to share common Open venues and even start lines is a much better bet imho.  So the groupings being suggested and outlined could perhaps do well to consider increased collaboration.   Fewer multi-class events - now that could work and reduces risk and expence for all. RS have shown it works well for several classes and it is a model the 'independents' could do well to study.

I suspect you are right, unfortunately. It would only work IMHO if semi-amateurs built and modified boats to compete. A bit like Moths in the old days.
What springs to mind is PY racing among these fairly tight groups, PY is more fun among boats that are fairly close in speed and type.

I reckon a D1 would nail a RS100 in unarig mode aorund the cans... there said it, quote it Russy, quick.

As for Phantoms and Blazes.... I don't know for sure, but assuming equal crew weight/skill factor, I'd guess wind strength would be a large determining factor.

This is back to the old chestnut of crew performance.

The difference between top of fleet and mid fleet is going to be equivalent to about 80 points of PY (and front to back 200 plus) in all these classes, so of course when you look at results it completely submerges differences in boat speed. Its just like the old favourie of new boats being faster. Of course they look faster: they're being sailed by the front of the fleet. There are differences of course, especially with new sails, but they're smaller than a lot of people here would like to think.

I'd also add it would be a dull as sh*t experience for both sailors, a bit like drinking Carlsberg when you thought you'd get the stellas in....

... unless of course it was blowing 25 knots and there was short, sharp chop- then it could get fruity  Evil Smile

hmmmm, there is an upturned plastic cherub hull in my garden, just ripe for cultivation.....I reckon it would make a neat little single hander, I could make it a bow sprit, get an assy off ebay, choice of mainsails so hike or trap....jib or no jib...

(oops, hope Tim Noyce doesn't see this, not sure he would approve Wink)
the same, but different...

And if it was breezy a Blaze would nail the pair of them, which proves my point that the bloody Blaze should have had a kite ages ago and saved us all a lot of trouble and expense, that luddite720 has a lot to answer for..

I think that should read:

that luddite720 has a lot of ambivalent Blaze owners who don't want a kite to answer TO....

I would bet my life that a D1 ex kite would obliterate a blaze in breeze. It should be quicker than the 100 by some way.
I reckon that the 100 ex kite would just have the edge over the blaze in breeze.
A 300 would absolutely obliterate a Blaze (and D1 ex kite I reckon) in breeze.
Reckon the phant would be somewhere betwixt 100 and D1 (both ex kite) in breeze
