Topic: Musto skiff and Rs700 Posted: 26 Dec 11 at 7:06pm |
Hi all after some advise. Having previously owned a RS700 iam debating weather to get another one.
I was thinking to get a contender but having been told that my club is looking to have a windward leeward course next season they I am tempted back by the spinicker. So 700 I liked, one reason being Not having a fully battern main so easy to de power. The other being a conventional lifting rudder. Lots moved from 700's tho to mustos but not sure since having dagger rudder and fully batterned main. Musto costs more also but has better residuals. Cheers.

What would you like to know? You haven't actually asked any questions, merely stated a few points about the two boats!

here's one bit of advice... trying spelling it before hoisting it (or pumping it) depending on which one you choose. |

Are you settled on having a wire. As if your sailing time is limited and not able to practice loads and loads I would recommend a 100 as it gives you great windward leeward sailing but without the adding complication of a wire.....might be worth considering??. Or even having a go of one???

That was nice.... you'll get much better advice on a forum if you spell it right to start with. At least the responders won't think you're a complete muppet. To the OP, if you can try both do it. FWIW- there are several very good reasons why the MPS is a more successful than the 700, however the 700 offers excellent value for money and if all you plan to do is club race in a PY asymmetric fleet, you might as well ask yourself if you need to spend another £3k on the 'better' option. You may find this type of sailing really doesn't suit you anyway, therefore why not start with the cheaper option? Edited by rogue - 28 Dec 11 at 4:06pm |

I've got to add re the 100 v MPS/700 I had more problems with the 100 than ever I did with the musto and by the time I arrived at the 100, I was more experienced. At least if you p1ssed in the MPS you could get it up and back into it easily enough.
So I think I'm with Jimbo on the suggestion go cheap 700 get the feel then if you like it switch to the Musto, not that I'm a great fan of it, I still believe it has knaff design flaws and only hold together because of the ceaseless activity of the class 'training' programme, which if you think logically you wouldn't need if it worked right in the first place.

Alternatively don't overlook the D-one, Class is really beginning to build some momentum. Its a great well sorted boat which will give you the downwind thrill, but also fly upwind and single sail reaching. It will also require less time in the boat then the 700/Musto. PM me if you want any more details/test sails etc.
