Heard of a sailing school that tried putting a Laser Rig on a
Topaz...... the scary thing is that the Topaz hull was meant to be a
good bit faster than the Laser hull

tbh that still will not make it move as the main killer in theas things is the waght and a topaze ways more than a keel boat
they are get a boat that ways nothing and has lots of sail or better still a hiydro moth |

There's actually two different jibs for the Topaz Uno - there used to be a 'standard' one which was quite cutaway (.....and very very small). There's also a 'race' version that isn't cutaway and runs flush to the deck. Topper no longer supply the smaller jib and have standardised with the bigger one. We use ours when we sail two-up but it's also quite fun on 'light wind' days to sail solo with the jib - and yes, it does make quite a lot of difference, especially if you have the race mainsail too. According to my owners manual, for rigging the jib it says: Put the end of the jib halyard through the lower eye on the mast, tie a bowline in the end and sleeve the mainsail over the top. Pull the jib halyard throught the slot in the luff of the mainsail and tie the top of the jib to it with a bowline. The foot of the jib is hooked onto the rope loop at the bow, the halyard goes in the cleat at the base of the mast (on the side). The Jib sheets are looped together through the rear corner of the jib and then fed through the bullseyes and and cleats - then tie a figure of eight knot in each end to stop them pulling through the cleats/bullseyes. Happy sailing !
