Aquapacs (other brands are available) have to be there, all those open meetings with mowhere safe to keep your valuables, and even if you leave them locked in the car you need somewhere dry to keep the keys.

I'd suppose you'd call them a gadget, but with modern ropes I wouldn't be without a set of splicing fids, always found in my rope bag..

The gadget I found most useful was the Casio Sea pathfinder watch. ....A cheap, reliable and easy to use countdown timer.

Seconded. Can even get them in Argos at that price. It's an extra tenner or so from most of the sailing clothing sites most of the time.

In my view the Optimum Time watches are far superior to the Casios, having used both in the last year. This is mainly due to the elasticated, hard to open strap on the Optimum that ensures it is very difficult to lose it over (doh) and also the simplicity of both the display and the functions on it.
