I have volunteered to organise a start of season training day that was to be run by our in house training guy for our club members. I have advertised it and received a good response.......Unfortunately our Training Chap has just broken his leg while skiing (more unfortunate for him, get well soon Peter). I am asking others at the club but I need a contingency plan.
So I'm investigating the possibility of an out of house coach.
Outline:
The day was advertised as free although most would probably stump up a few quid each for a good day. Obviously negotiable.
We're not olympic sailors, skills range from RYA 1&2 graduates to Competent club sailors and some keen and very competent youngsters.
Minimal class room stuff, mostly on the water racing drills, start line, boat handling in packs, round the cans stuff etc. for single and double handed monos
As much "dust of the cobwebs" day as it is a skills learning day.(we need someone to shout at us and keep us focused)
Ribs and rib helm (a good 49er sailor) provided by the club.
Eastbourne area on the 23rd April.
.........Does anyone knows of anyone who could fit the bill?

Your RYA Regional High Performance Manager should have a list of qualified coaches, or Race endorsed DIs if that's good enough.

I'm doing a few days like that here at Hunts, I'd offer to help with yours, but it's a bit of a trek!

Nice thought ......Ultimately we need a couple of race endorsed DIs.
I thought about getting an Instructors ticket so last year I assisted with the school here, just to get a feel of it......it drove me up the wall, I guess patience is not my strongest point. Hat's off to those who do it. Edited by GK.LaserII - 22 Feb 11 at 3:46pm |

I am a race endorsed DI/SI, as well as being a CRC. We have more than our fair share of coaches here at Hunts so we're lucky - but this is why the RYA should eb ehlping you as part of their Adult Participation programme. They should provide someone for free!

Yes, our SI is on to that.
We have set the date and can't really change it, they may not have anyone free so I'm covering all the bases as I'm determined not to cancel it.

I am also a race coach and DI. Eastbourne is a trek but could be done (am west london based)
I would go down the RYA route, but coaches are something like £100 a day so might be worth a post on the RYA forum too (can do that if needed) as you may attract people after experience. If you need more info (or even ideas) do PM me. I am sure your 49er guy could do some things. |

GK,
I might be able to help. I'm a CRC and down the road at Shoreham. PM me if you are interested and we can expand on the idea.

The RYA have offered some free coaching, 6 sessions I believe although they couldn't do the 23rd april, understandably it was too short notice.
We have now arranged for a couple of our experienced racers to facilitate.
Thanks to all who sent PM's with offers of help, sincerely appreciated. Edited by GK.LaserII - 09 Mar 11 at 2:12pm |
