Hi all,
Happen to be visiting Loch Sunart on the Ardnamurchan in April for a family break and was considering taking the old boat (GP14) for a bit of day cruising. Any locals have grip on local conditions like what water temperature I can expect? regrds Kev

a fek of a lot warmer than east coast , west of scotland sea temps are relatively warm due the gulf stream .
Lochs with rivers running into them during times of heavy rain can drop a wee bit where the cold fresh water runs in .
Like anywhere in west coast expect 4 seasons in a day :) , if you don't like the weather wait half an hour and it will change !

Really bloody cold or really really bloody cold!
Seriously though depends on the wind direction - if much north in it keep your feet dry! We spent a family holiday there about 10 years ago in glorious weather but as above it can be variable, I would be a bit wary of sailing a dinghy without rescue cover at that time of year towards the mouth of the Loch but if you are inshore a bit with care it could be good.

Right up the other end Strontium end, in fact probably from the slip there. Still undecided, its a long way to haul the boat and if none of the family can join me, not really going to be worth it. Kev

remembering a bit more about it now - the advantage of going to that part of the world in April as opposed to summer is the local midge population has not properly established itself. It is a long way to haul a boat but if you do get 'the week' of the year when the weather is perfect you will regret it forever if you don't have it!!
We took a laser with us & also hired a small motor boat when we were there for fishing & rescue if needed, it is a fab place for crusing around in the right weather.

Your no doubt correct there.... til ldont know what to do. bought the lad (first mate) a new wetsuit so not sure now, may take the old tub.
