To revive an all too old and forgotten thread.... Dear Dave
The current Mrs C-541 is toddling off to the uneducated, inbread, xenophobes across the pond for a couple of weeks
Unfortunatly for me I have a knee problem that is just not getting any better (and the insurance bods are dragging their arses)
So my question for the all knowing and all seeing BWD is what to do with myself when all there appears to be is the opportunity for Rugby and beer?
yours
C-541

Dear Dave,
I have a problem, hope you can help. Every year, I find myself drawn to the RYA Dinghy Show. I look forward to seeing people I know, looking at the boats and day dreaming about stuff I can't afford. Trouble is, every year my euphoria is mashed, trampled, stamped on and then finally, almost permanently (at least for 11.5 months) shattered completely by having to travel to Alexandra Palace, the worst, possible, ever, place to hold said event from a travel to/from perspective. Please use your powers to have this thing moved.... Birmingham would be good, but frankly any where outside the M25 is fine. Ta. |

I wonder if the RYA have a committee to work at finding the worst possible venue, or whether they pay management consultants to do it

CP really was bad. Not old enough to remember PL. I like the current location, once I'm there - nice views and great if the sun comes out, but getting home round the N circular is just the pits. Wish you'd not started this - I was looking forward to it up to now! At least I'm there for the weekend, so travel is less per hour of show.

I suspect its pretty difficult sorting out a good venue. It needs to be cheap, large, high roof, have good transport and so on... I bet NEC and the like are viciously expensive. Ally Pally is the best venue its been at in my time. Crystal Palace there were about 4 or 5 halls, one nearly impossible to find, so if you were out there you were stuffed!
