Currently looking at getting either a laser 3000 or a Buzz. Both these boat
from what I've seen can be picked up for £1000 or a bit above(roughly my
budget).

I know the laser 3000 can be sailed singled handed but wonder what the
Buzz was like to sail single handed? I wont always be sailing it single handed
but am looking for something that has the option of sailing it single or
double handed. Are there any other boats that are good to sail single and
double handed and that are good fun. I used the sail Dart 15 which did both
pretty well though I'd rather a mono hull.

Mutters under his breath 'Vago?'

Edit: Ok, budget doesn't fit. Ignore me.

The buzz is beamer then the 300 & so should allow a crew to relax easier in the light airs but is also heavier to get up the slip after sailing.

The 3000 should also have a better circuit or event calendar then the Buzz.

The Buzz should also allow more mistakes to be made before punishing you because of her beam.

S/H parts & sails for the 300 are proberly easier to get then the Buzz`s S/H spares.

Any boat designed to be a double hander will always be awkward as a single hander & that should be taken into account in your decision.

Agreed

I dont agree with this as the Buzz has a larger sail area and the beam doesent help, it also makes launching and recovery with a wide boat and a fully battened main more difficult.

Yes second hand parts are readily available for the 3000 from either Vandercraft or  Northampton Sailboats.

Any boat designed to be a double hander will always be awkward as a single hander & that should be taken into account in your decision.

The 3000 is a far easier boat to singlehand as the sail area is smaller and there will be a guide to how to upgrade your 3000 to singlehand on the website shortly, at the moment there are a few pics on the foum of how to.

I am a little biased as i do sail a 3000 but i do believe they are genuinely a good boat, brilliant in breeze but easy to sail for people new/ish to the sport and they can also perform in lighter breezes to handicap too.

Going to look for a 3000 primarily but will keep an eye out for buzzes too. If

The Buzz is a decent boat - it has an open circuit and Wet n Windy supply boats, sails and parts.  Not sure I'd want to single hand one on a regular basis though (but the same goes for the 3000).
