I've been a Windguru subscriber for some time now, and often been more than pleased with the forecasts. However, recently I've noticed that it really isn't doing quite as good a job as it used to - Or is it just my area? Windguru could be temperamental during periods of SW'erly Summer storms/unsettled weather, but it seems pretty inaccurate at the moment. Does anyone know if it's the forecast model which is confused by jetstream changes recently, or is it just my quirky neck of the woods? |

I have noticed that the forecast for Weymouth this Saturday were very different on windguru when compared to xcweather, Metcheck and BBC. However the more recent forecasts on xcweather etc now seem to be coming into line with winguru.

Decided not to sail midweek on basis of windguru forecast (4knots NE) and it turned out to be considerably stronger and southerly.

Helpful though it is, I reckon it's been partly responsible for poorer turnouts to events over the last few years....amongst other things as well. Oh, and the 12 hour delay just leaves you wondering... Timg |

I'm guilty of that - a few times i have decided not to go sailing on the strength of its forecast and I recently decided I would stop paying anymore than a passing glance at it and just go and enjoy myself what ever the conditions are forecast to be. |

I subscribe (the 12hr delay was too inconsistent for me). I've noticed that there have been plenty of occasions recently where the forecast has changed drastically literally an hour before hitting the water. I have to admit that I'm now getting to the point where I head down to the club and guesstimate the conditions once I'm there... But that's not much of a forecast is it? I'm at Swanage, so I guess that Weymouth's forecasts will be somewhat similar - Does anyone have any specific issues with Windguru in other parts of the country at the moment? |

Certainly not worth subscribing then. I find it amazing how much more accurate it is than the BBC weather forecast, which on the whole is a crock of "rubbish". That said, when you think about it, we are talking about guessing the weather, it's like winning the lottery, surely? Timg |

BBC? Nothing but a Government controlled revenue collator. Bank Holiday Weather = Hot, sunny, no wind, especially at the coast... Living in a tourist hotspot, I beg to differ. Bournemouth wanted to take the Beeb to court last year for loss of earnings owing to their overly-optimistic forecasts... Then complained when the next Bank Holiday wasn't a wash-out... Let's face facts, it'll be windy (i.e. gusty and variable), wet and cold every Bank Holiday! |

Windguru forecast seemed to corrolate pretty well with actual readings this weekend. All other sites seemed to be forecasting lower winds.
