There is currently a discussion going on on the cvrda site currently about whether we should introduce a newer boat wing for designs predating 1985 which don't fit into the 1965 current design age cut off. Just wondering how many people on here own a boat from the period we are talking about, please? Apologies if you own more than one - maybe post something to that effect! Any views on racing 25 + year old boats in class racing and modern handicap fleets also welcome. Would there be interest in racing these boats together, or do you feel this is catered for at club level anyway?

would it be "designed" or "first launched"? Because if the former, the B14 just about slips in!

One of my Cherubs is circa 1975, being a development class it was probably designed in around the early 1970s but the class has been around since 1951.
I attended the CVRDA event at Roadford the other day, and I can say that it was really good fun going up against other old boats! |

My boat (Dart 18) is a 1975 design, but my current sail number dates the boat in the 1990's. Not sure this would be a welcome boat at one of these events! |

Development classes like the N12 and Cherub where the original boat was designed before 1965 have always been allowed in, if they were more than 25 years old (now a 1985 cut off for a few years).

And for pre-1985 boats without a class association we have the cvrda "Lost Classes" wing which includes such delights as the Tonic, Pegasus, Man O'War and others you probably haven't heard of. Rupert beat me to it, but I'll add a new poll on another thread - does your class assoc provide a different handicap or seperate racing for boats over 25 years old? |

One early 1970s wooden Phantom - good condition and great fun to sail, but I suspect nowhere near the pace of a modern plastic one

Mongoose, do you and winging it know each other? You have early Phantoms in common!
