So what did you think of the coverage and interactivity of AC33? What do you think could be done to improve it for the next edition? Personally I think Valencia daily episodes were complete tripe! especially on the non sailing days. we all knew that postponements and abandonments were going to be common place but to fill these episodes with utter nonsense was idiotic! The live coverage when it got going was ok, but with just a video of a flag flying for hours on end, come on! The commentators where as you'd expect from sailing, good, well qualified sailors who know their stuff but don't have the experience to form a cohesive program like say rugby or football, which can make you feel part of the action. This is common place in sailing media though, because as a sport we cant seem to get airtime and thus start to improve our sport in this area. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the coverage, but could we not expect more these days? I would of also liked a bit more interactivity, I know certain forums etc were going on during the races, but I talking about virtual spectator on your phone for example, or for the people who watched online to have the ability to choose between the different video feeds and VS from the official source, in effect becoming your own director, on which for me had the worst transmission in terms of coherent feed. I know this is mostly ranting, but I genuinely interested in what people think could change to improve our sports AV media presence. |

Sailing Anarchy's "Cocktail Hour" 'broadcasts' were very good. Mike |

Damien?? He was truly awful. I actually googled him and he seems to be mainly a producer at Eurosport, with little presenting experience and no sailing background to speak of at all. It felt like they spent all of their budget on Paul Cayard and had to get Damien to fill in as a presenter. There was no need at all to have those two in Valencia. They didn't add anything to the overall experience. Back in the studio, Dee Cafari was only marginally better. On day 1, she commented that she wasn't an expert on this sort of racing. I forget her exact words, but it was along those lines. She continued to miss things or just get stuff wrong throughout the commentary. For example, on the last leg of the last race, BMWO were struggling to get down to the line in dropping pressure. They were obviously going to have to do a gybe for the line. A5 had seen this and had been working low for a while. It was as plain as day that A5 were going to make a big gain, but she got it the wrong way round and said that they were going too low. The ES commentators sounded all confused and surprised when BMWO's lead suddenly halved. I actually turned the ES commentary right down and listened to Andy Green's commentary on the host feed and the pictures on the TV, along with commenting on the SA thread. I tried the OTWA page for a bit, but it just seemed to be some guy in a bar not really adding anything useful to the proceedings, so I gave up on it pretty quickly. I thought AG was very good. He picked up on things quickly, knew the ins and outs and came across as a fan too. I thought Sailing Anarchy could have done better. They seemed to struggle at first to find a format which worked, but at least they got people on the ground and had a go, and they did do some good interviews. |

I think Seb's accent is great, and his weekly "Des-Top News" articles are good too-----------------Résumé de Sebastien DestremauSebastien Destremau is a French / Australian citizen. Oh, wrong person. I thought you were meaning Damien, who presented the Eurosport coverage alongside Paul Cayard.

On race 2, OTWA anarchy was good for their use of Virtual Eye- they were using it much more, and responding to requests in the chat channel. I had that, plus the "host brodcaster" stream (through one out of the AC33 website, Sky Sports or the BMW oracle site- think I settled on BMWO because it was most in-sync with OTWA) open simeltaneously, and switched between audio. |

I tend to find SA too biased, although they did some good interviews and the fact they actually got people there and gave it a go, I was disappointed though, especially as they give all the chat about everyone else being so rubbish you'd think they'd be better?? I'll admit I couldn't watch their feed because of their impartiality. It would be nice in future to be able to select between commentaries and video feeds, perhaps someone can develop a video feed aggregator???? I think it would also be great if the teams showed more of their data, like speed, acceleration forces, etc so that could be integrated into the video and VS. would also be nice if in VS you could ghost race against the boats live. For example you have the choice of using a BMWO or ALINGHI so in affect you have 3 boats on the course virtually?! that way you can pit your wits against them in real time with the actual data VS receives from them and see if you could so any better? |

Like most of the comments here I was disappointed with the TV coverage, and especially the Eurosport commentary. I also heard Dee Cafari say she didn’t know much about AC racing and my immediate thought was ‘Why’ve you taken the money then?’. I watched most of the second race on the Skysports feed that did not seem to be overloaded like the AC.com feed, but for some reason Sky stopped the feed before the end of the race. so it was back to AC.com, but at least both of those feeds had Peter Montgomery commentating. As far as I’m concerned he is the voice of the America’s Cup I was in work on the Friday and so I had to use the Skysports feed with no sound and kept up to date via one of the forums on SA. Saw a few others from Y&Y there as well. Really I enjoyed most the stuff on the internet in the build up more than the event coverage. If you can discount the babble on SA there is plenty of real stuff to get your teeth into. MB’s (for those that know SA) thread with almost daily pictures from the time the boats arrived through to Larry leaving with the cup was an absolute gem. Also in the last couple of weeks there was a thread looking a the weather forecasts and models that I found most instructive. And of course before Christmas we had the streaming video of Dogzilla’s first trials with the wing sail. In the end the TV companies came nowhere near the internet community, because they could not be as flexible in just putting on the coverage when it happened.
