for an undercover go for speeds. I had one on 365 and it was a great fit, really thick durable material. Not seen a top cover for the 300 made by them but the other ones they make are really tough. Alex has a sail register top cover and it has made his deck bubble at the back.

When I ordered my old man's Laser cover from Waveloft the guy I spoke to said that he would expect the cover material to last longer than the straps and when the straps do go to return the cover to them for replacement (FOC, I understood that to mean)
Seemed pretty confident about his product. I think he said he was a Contender sailor who was disappointed with quality of another manufacturer who I won't name here and set up his own business because he felt he could do better. |

I got my new RS700 cover from RainandSun. Very pleased with it so far. Cheaper than the LDC offering, more supple material, straps appear to be in more appropriate places.
Well thought out cover and the service was excellent. |

If you're up for a challenge, make your own covers. A good domestic sewing machine will cope if sewn slowly with the right needle. The materials and fastenings are available by mail order from various places. I use Point North http://www.profabrics.co.uk who do all sorts of outdoor materials from fleece to sailcloth, spraytop and tent fabrics plus all the bits and pieces. Beaulieu boat jumble is another source - I bought a roll of cover fabric there for fifty quid and am doing Merlin and Zodiac covers from it and possibly a Laser or Lark as well. |

Goldfinch covers are much better made than so many. proper double d ring
straps that don't seize up after a season. Padding in all the right places and very long lasting. |

Right another question for you lot, Non breathable PVC covers, seem to leave little bubbles under the gel coat on most RS boats i have seen with them. Has anyone else seen this before? Reason i ask is there is a chap selling 300 (and loads of other classes) covers on e-bay and he got his arse right out when i asked if it was breathable or not. If there is no problems with PVC why do cover manufacturers make polycotton covers? The small bubbles i have seen on boats with PVC covers, disappear when left in the sun on a really hot day, but they are still not desirable!
So my question is, am i right and this guy is wrong? Or is PVC ok for a dinghy top cover? |

When I got my cover made by Banks a couple of years ago, I was advised that non-breathable covers are fine if your boat is all GRP. If it has wood then you should get a breathable cover.

Hi, we worked with Phil Bull of Rain & Sun to develop a set of new covers for the B14 and have to say that the experience was an easy one and the product range is now the best B14 covers in the market due to the fact that they have all the extra reinforcing thatthe end users required. However, there are other good products in the market.
All come at a price and you ahve to decide what your priority is and then decide. For us though it is Rain & Sun. |
