Could this actually be the people's foiler? Well, upper-middle-class peoples, that is - £16k inc Vat. |

The UFO is supposed to be under 8000 dollars, that's more of a peoples foiler.

It's really hard for me to see the UFO as having reasonable speed when not foiling. In the first regatta where they got a fleet, they were beaten across the line by boats with a yardstick around the same as a Pico, if I recall, and that was in flat water.
That seems to indicate that it's not going to be a very popular racing class. Incidentally I ran the numbers for the A Class cats, which show an increase in class membership of only around 20-30 members worldwide since they started foiling. One Who Would Know said that the problem with attracting early adopters is that they go off and adopt something else when they get lapped.

People's foiler in terms of price or skill level? It doesn't seem to make the drop downs any less violent. In terms of getting people foiling I think a multi hull is a far better solution for stability prior to take off than all that wetted area and weight of a scow. I think the peoples foiler is the kites boards. So simple.

Problem with Kite boards, they are so dangerous, seen loads of near misses and actual accidents.

Dangerous compared to a dinghy, probably. More dangerous than moth or Nacra, maybe similar? Compared to other popular sports like cycling, rugby, football; probably pretty safe. Certainly not dangerous enough to stop it becoming a peoples sport. |
