As a windsurfer/racer who returned to dinghies 12 years ago with a twin trapeze boat, standing offwind seems natural to me. And, it's hard to be mobile when kneeling.

It's very sad to see such a new class to be called out for propelling, theirs only 6 of them

Watched the odd Aero sailor standing up, and then claiming the boat was rocking because its unstable and he couldn't stop it. Funnily enough, saying Protest seemed to make the boat more stable.
It appears to happen in most classes, just some take a firmer line than others, which is fine if everyone on a circuit is following the same interpretation, but not when club handicap racing. |

Funny because at our club it is the Solos that stand up and we have to remind them to sit down! They always say its their knees or backs that need a stretch, poor old men

H2, only joshing, only ever seen H2's sailed correctly. Lasers probably worst, Stars are interesting to watch, their rocking action proves how effective it is, the fastest boat is the most violently rocked.

Solos imo have got a lot better, at Championship level on water judging has helped establish where the line of acceptability is.
At our club we have been quite vocal with transgressors, and standing up is a giveaway which tends to attract derision.

As annoying as it is, is standing up to reduce stability and hence be a bit more rolly, actually against rule 42?

Standing isn't, but rocking is.

Yeah, but if standing makes the boat inherently unstable so that it wobbles with the slightest wave, puff, lull etc, is the wobbling that follows rocking or not?
