Haa now that's an experience I can share! Have you ever cooked with fresh chillies, Hydro? I grow some really fierce chillies at home. You deseed them, chop them and cook them. Even if you've washed your hands about ten times in the course of the cooking, don't absentmindedly rub your eye. Whaaaaaa!! Now, that hurts! (and don't mention wearing gloves... I hate them!)

yeh i wear contacts all the time and sail a laser radial. i have never had any problems with them, but you have to resist the temptation to rub your eyes when getting sprayed in the face. i wear monthly ones so cant really afford to be lossing them. |

I was sailing in the Radial Europeans last year and in about force five a wave hit me straight in the face and broke the contact lense in my right eye. I carried on sailing sometimes shutting the eye and opening it when I could. After the race I got to a RIB and I was able to get the 'large' piece out but the 'small' piece (like a slice of pizza) stayed in and scratched by eye. I spent several hours after racing trying to get it out (using special solution and clothes) but no luck. Eventually when I got to sleep my eye wept all night and the piece came out on its own but my eye was sore for days after... I now race 'blind'!
