Hey guys,
Is anyone else on SailX (used to be called Tacticat)? It's a nice little online sailing game which simulates dinghy racing, and allows you to sail against other people, compete in regattas and try out different tactics and strategies. I've been playing for a while and I know a few guys who play it, but I was wondering if anyone on Y&Y ever takes part. It would be great to set up a Y&Y regatta. I'm not too sure how to do it, but I think it would be fun. With the clocks changing no one's going to get sailing as much as they want, so this might be a light alternative. Anybody know of any other online sailing simulators? Ryan |

Ryan, quite a few of the 49er boys got addicted last winter, with a few of us getting in to the top 20 for a brief period (think Dylan cracked the top 10), but there is only so many times you can be sailed 20 boat lengths over the layline by some chump American, then have another boat sail past the layline by 6 boat lengths just to clip your transom and penalise you! Or the classic luff up 10 seconds before the start just to guarantee your both stitched up. But that aside, yes it’s a good game very addictive, and can improve you tactics, however be prepared to get very frustrated. You can organise private fields for regattas + groups just contact Astela (site Admin)

hey Marksy,
like I said, I've played it a bit and I know what you're talking about. Playing against people you don't know is frustrating as they can easily take you out, which is why I thought a closed regatta would be cool. I wish the courses were longer though. You get to the windward far too quickly for my liking. Still, it's better than not sailing I guess. |

I used to play quite a lot but got fed up with some of the inconsistent protest hearings but there are some good guys on there too, and it does help you to learn the rules and try different tactics (e.g, different approaches into the leeward gate) Edited by asterix |

I used to play it when it was Tacticat, and found it a good tool for learning the rules (it was never marketed as a 'game' as such anyway). I keep meaning to go back...

I down loaded tacticat a while ago and the robots were a little tedious, but playing them on Sail X is worse! But a good race in skiffs on sail X is a lot of fun, you can talk to other competitors with a little text flag from your boat to make it a laugh. Depends a lot on band width, transaltlantic internet connection and if there are any "jerks" ( it is american dominated) on your race. Start lines can be a joke, but some are peachy with a classic "one boat perfect at the CB end, one boat out fastest mid line, port tacking the fleet". There should be a faster DSQ, rubbed from race course for OCS. Recommend finding a 12m race to start with or lasers. |

If you are interested in ocean racing
Sailonline is the business - forget the cartoonish VORG/Multi Player games And the chat is great! Edited by pondscum |

People barging in at the mark and me getting a penalty for it even though I'm on Starboard? That's what's wrong with it! Grrr, most irritating game ever. |
