I've found using a cutting compound works well - even removes light scratches etc. You can buy it from Northampton sailboats etc - its called 'finishing paste' or something, alternatively, Halfords sell their own brand cutting compound (comes in a yellow tube costs about £5)

Hi I am new to this site, so Hello all. Talking of cleaners I have just used Easy Clean on my saddler. I read it in the May addition of PBO and it was in Sailing Today in June (no I dont read every sailing mag ). The test results are on their site www.avantsupplies.com I must admit I am impressed with the results must be the quickest clean up I have ever done. One bottle covered all of my 34 ft hull. Great site wonder why I Havent heard of it before. |

Thanks Black no sugar ( thats the way I like my coffee to) I think I have been a sucker to most sailing hype so its nice to buy a product that really works. Now I need something to keep my prop clean. I have tried just about everything from hard racing anti fouling to stove blacking |

Keeping your prop clean, heard a roomer that black permanent marker pen ink works, discovered when someone wrote on a prop and a year later there was growth on the prop but not where they had written. After that there is a wonder product called 'prop speed' with a wonder price tag, meant to be the best out there but allegedly keeps it clean for two years.

Cillit Bang is good for cleaning up old GRP. Worked a treat on an old Laser.
When I used to work in a boatyard they used to mix up a gloop of 50:50 mastic and grease then smear it onto the prop. But whatever you do don't let the fowling settle otherwise it causes pitting and that really messes up a prop. |
