	The 5 tonner is a bot of a qaulified failure though, isn't it? After all, it did briefly have a semi-televised circuit, and was being sailed by top sailors, so in that repect it was a success- at the time. Certainly, more of a success than the many, many stillborn classes that have been produced (and that winging it has subsequently bought ). But at the same time, much more of a specatacular fall from grace into ignomy and THAT part of the boat park.

	The Fusion was designed by Jo Richards, so has pedigree. I think the trouble was it tried to jump on the windsurfer bandwagon (it could sail, windsurf or row) without the current understanding that what works for sailing doesn't really work for windsurfing and vice versa. So it was poor at everything it did, as it was compromised by having to do the other 2. Phil Bolger, another great boat designer, once said that it is difficult to make a boat do 2 things well, and almost impossible to make it do 3. He was talking about sailing, rowing and motoring. Making it windsurf too is just one step beyond.

	What about these Ultra 30s? They enjoyed a brief five minutes of fame, but a bit like Big Brother contestants, they hardly make the z list nowadays..
