I wear a Rooster BA. It goes on over the head and off the same way. There is no zip or front/side fastening and I use the adjustable straps to ensure a tight fit on the water. So, in an entrapment situation I'm basically screwed if I need to get the thing of in a hurry - unless I can cut it away. This is not a rant against Rooster btw - other BAs have the same issues.

While looking at the Rooster website, I came across these race bibs and I wonder what people think about them. On the one hand they sould keep all your straps neatly tucked away and yet you still have some access to the BA straps to lift someone out of the water. Not sure it properly addresses the "tiller inside the BA scenario but it may be a compromise. Any experience?

I wear my BA under a rashie or spray top, but my harness over the top of both.  This means the BA is neatly out of the way but the harness straps are there for me to be hauled out by if need be.  I could also, in theory, get my harness off if necessary.  Whether in reality this would be possible if a situation called for it I don't know.  As a last resort I could cut it I suppose.

I think the purpose of the race bibs is for training/team racing/identifying leaders etc.

I have stuck my tiller through my BA, but not through my harness.
the same, but different...

I often wear a "bib" or "vest" over my BA as I find it
helps stop anything catching on the buckles on the side of
my magic marine buoyancy aid, I prefer it to a full overtop
as it has no restriction at all around the arms/shoulders
and leaves me free to wear what I want under it.
