Cotswold SC is 5 mins (if that) from South Cerney. A very freindly bunch - have a look at both.

Like some other things - sailing is more enjoyable when you do it with someone else

Si,
Dont rule out Frampton SC or Thornbury SC. Frampton is on a small lake just off of junction 13 of the M5 which is only 15mins from Gloucester depending on which side of town you live, also Thornbury my home club is only 25mins from Gloucester. I used to live in Quedgeley, and we have members who live in Churchdown and Barnwood. At Thornbury most of the active sailors are probably in 20-50 age group, and we sail on the River Severn with loads of tide. We have a good mix of boats, Lasers, Toppers, Wayfarers, Albacores, Scorpions, RS700, RS800, Spitfires, Dart 18s, A-class, F18 so take your pick really. PM me if your interested and I can show you around. Paul |

My info is a good thirty years out of date but I learned
to sail at South Cerney SC. And I lived in Churchdown, halfway between Glos and Chelt. Even at that time the journey was only 25/30 mins and that was before they did all the road improvements between Gloucester and Swindon. It's probably quicker now to get there. SCSC is the biggest gravel-pit reservoir amongst all those Spine Road excavations. In my day I sailed Cadets, and the club was big on Scorpions, Seaflies and Albacores. And we marvelled at the cutting edge design of the Laser 2. So quite a while ago. When you are sailing at Cadet speed every lake looks massive but I recall that it was plenty big enough for everyone. Lakeside pontoons so you could "dry-launch", lots of trees and grass so it looked nice and the gates were locked for security. We competed to find the grumpiest angler around the lake and I'm sure that hasn't changed. |

I'm in Gloucester, I've open water kayaked but never sailed and wanted to join a club where I could spend the weekends, maybe do a 2* as well. I could go to Bowmoor, but its 50 minutes drive whereas South Cerney is 30, so I was wondering if there were any other suggestions... Cheers for the help

Hi Si, Where abouts do you live in Gloucestershire? And what do you sail? Bowmoor is great for Laser sailors but i have heard they dont really have a handicap fleet now! Its their 6 hour race this following weekend, so it may be worth popping down. I sail at bowmoor during the winter, but wont be this year as they only seem to be interested in the laser fleet, which is a shame. |

Hi Guys
I've finished uni, am back in Gloucester and want to do some sailing. I want a club with more people my age (23), not just kids and dads. Any ideas? I was told Bowmoor is best but its quite a trek. Any idea about South Cerney sailing club or any other suggestions? Feel free to show me somewhere better to put this question! Thanks Si |
