With two sets of spring scales Sten and webbing straps, getting it exact is easier said then done granted. Alternatively i could get it weight at my old mans factory on their industrial scales thingy! Weigh boat with trolley then weigh trolley and subtract. Simples!

I noticed the other day on the Heron website details on how to weigh a boat which seemed pretty simple, I have never heard of this method before though, anyone ever tried it? How accurate is it? |

This is a very comendable level of transparency, good stuff! 10mm foam in floor for extra stiffness?, what's in the wings/flairs for strengthening these as I can see them being quite heavily loaded and also a prime collission point (if you're willing to say)? |

Probebly theoretically very accurate, but in practise there is so much room for error, I can't believe you'd get to within a couple of KG. Using a set of bathroom scales, you can weigh each end of the boat in turn (upside down), propping the other end at the same height on a block, and add the 2 figures together. Again, probebly error prone, but it would give you an idea if your boat was anywhere near weight. "2 sets of scales, even better. Then take them back to Argos on 16 day return, when you discover that they weigh you at totally different amounts when you stand on them, and the figure you have for the boat is useless... |

The wings and indeed the rest of the boat is 6mm foam. There is an extra layer of 290 woven all over the sidedeck, considerable extra in the gunwhales, I think 2 layers 450 biax on each of deck and hull. Also in front half of the sidedeck / wing there are 2 vertical 20mm foam/glass "bulkheads". This last bit is unchanged from the prototypes which have proved very strong here. But we will learn a lot more from the first 2 pre production boats - we are not planning to start real production for another month. Nick. |

Martin was eager that any commercial bias I may have was visible to all forum members. My connection with Ovi's via the Musto Skiff project has always been well known & detailed in my profile but for the avoidance of doubt I have added it to my sig ... perhaps others with a stake in the marine industry should do the same on this forum. |

Morning rick I wasn't aware that you were in any shape or form part of commercial publicly machine for ovington boats or any other company’s interests. I suppose that I may well be in the minority in that view but I doubt it & thought that your stated views were yours & yours alone The info may have been in your profile but you are relying on no one looking for it to be effective in the pushing the products of your paymasters. In the real world who would check yours or anybody else’s profile before replying to a post. I wouldn’t & I doubt if many others would either! So this means now that any thing you post or say on the forum has to be considered in the light of a possible product endorsement rather then a personal opinion or advice to a fellow sailor. GRF may also be a salesman but he has never to my knowledge tried to hide that by any shape or means including having the excuse that it is in my profile & has always been there for all to see. ( I only mention GRF because you & him are always bitching at each other ) That excuse sounds like thing a politician would come up with to me & properly others too. I have no links to any company’s in the sailing industry & have nothing to gain by posting this. This is my opinion only! By the way who are these others with a hidden stake in the marine industry? That now you have been caught Edited by bert |
