I'll be on a cruser this weekend and was wondering if there are any must have's?
I have ALOT! of sailing stuff from salopetes to the yacht wellies but what combinations do I need, I probably dont need the gear for the Fastnet race of 79 but just some tips would be nice |

Have a look at the weather your way and plan for that. I'd say boots, waterproof trousers, jacket or spraytop, gloves, hat, sunglasses, suncream and layers for underneath. You might be optimistic and pack flipflops, shorts and T-shirt............but I'm assuming your in the UK! Obviously, usual safety gear would be added on top of that list.

I find that dinghy boots are best if you are going to be
running around on deck in all weathers. Yacht wellies tend to be a bit too clunky unless you are just sitting in the cockpit. |

Id recomend trainers over dinghy boots, especialy on a cruiser in this weather.
Ive got a big pair of yachty boots and a pair of musto trainers and I stick with the trainers (teamed up with sealskin socks if its going to be wet) untill it starts to get nasty regardless of the boat... but then, I dont spend much time in back in fantasy land... If you have a pair of salopettes and a dinghy smock you'll be fine. Make sure you cary a multitool with a botle opener at all times though. |
