Fascinating, I'd love to get my hands on a prototyper like that, the potential
for boards and boats... So what software are you folk using for these doodles? I dont suppose there's a Mac version of it? |

Most of the ones here are done in freeship (also called Delftship), but there are plenty of other free CAD packages suitable for boats (check boatdesign.net for a list of some of the most popular). Be warned, some blighter is selling freeship as 3dboatdesign. Its not his to sell and is exactly the same as the free version. I don't know if any of them work on a Mac. |

Graeme, if you want to try, just type Freeship in google and it should be at the top of the search list. As Toby said, I'm not sure if it will work on a Mac but you could be the guinea pig!

Dan, going back to typical costs, and assuming you could get a few models knocked up in a suitable format, most prototyping agencies should be able to produce 5-6 models for you at approx. £100-200 so you are looking at £30 a model ish.
If you are only looking for one model, at very low frequency your best bet would be to just see if they can do you a free favour/demonstration. Typically they will want to recover the processing costs, so quantity will make it cheaper. |

Cheers Craiggo, Thats of a lot of interest to me on a number of levels, even if its for making models for decorative purposes. £30 a pop is far, far cheaper to do than a half model. And then concept illustration for new stuff would be awesome. |
