Blackadder goes forth!! Yeee haa, thats really the best! Last episode of that series is soo close to the truth... My great-grandad was in the trenches and he used to tell us (my sister and me) about going "over the top". I was 7, my sis was 4, we couldn't care less at the time! Now, of course, it makes sense...

"People who were there" are getting fewer and fewer... Dunno if you remember, in Nov 2004, the 90th anniversary of the declaration of War... They brought up all these frail, infinitely ancient men, still scarred by those memories. It's amazing how short a lifespan can be. As teenager, (in the '80s), I used to know a man who'd been to Victor Hugo's state funeral, in 1885!! He was only 5 at the time, and he was 109 when he died. I could have listened to him for hours.. One true witness of the 20th century, he was a talking history book. Have you ever wondered what's the life story of "ordinary" people?? |
