Finn: If Ben porks it from here I'll eat my arm!! His ony concern was if it goes light and flukey and I quote (this one's for Jim) '...becomes a LOTTERY'. Interesting quandry for Zach! Does he chase an unlikely gold medal or get stuck into Daniel to be sure of the silver, who in turn has 3 guys snapping at his heels. Oh this could be good! Yngling: Dear oh dear.....a one point lead, what to do? Who ever finishes first wins! Anyone know what the match racing pedigree of the 2 helms is? I expect a 9th-10th battle there. And watch out for some serious aggressive pre start manoeuvreing. Star: For the first time in living memory I was spot on at the final top mark. Cut to my living room 'What are you doing you numpty Percy.....right you idiot, right!' A real oppotunity wasted there I wonder if he'll look back in week and rue that one. Tornado: Good start guys! 470 Men: Looks like the Aussies are too solid to break into, and they need another bad result from the French to get near them. A bad result today makes it look like a battle for bronze for the guys. 470 girls: Those 2 big score are really hurting the girls. With the the top guys discarding better results than they are counting they have really got to rely on a number of crews screwing up big style. Slim chance of a gong here I feel Laser Men: Great result today for Paul. Good lord it's tight at the top of the fleet. When you start knocking off the worst score it could be anybodys! Paul needs to take a leaf form the ynglings and keep it consistent, and who knows what might happen, he's certainly got the experience to come out of this with the top spot, fingers crossed folks. Laser girls: Oh Penny, what are trying to do to us? It seems she has a big problem whenever she gets sucked into the pack, in her bad races she has finished worse than her 1st mark position and just seems to go backwards down the fleet. I think she needs a lesson from Ben on how to grind out scoring races from mid fleet mark ones (and while he's at it I think I'll listen in too!). RSX men: A suberb result from Nick and a shocker from the Israeli. Game on!! You've still gotta favour the Israeli boy but in these conditions he's gonna start feeling the pressure from the chasing pack. RSX Women: What's going on here then?? Other than the Chinese girl having it sewn up! It seems as if Byrony didn't sail....can anybody shed some light on this? 49er: Nothing happening there I think! Thoughts?

Now let's have a litte prediction on 'total medals'' -we're aming IIRC for 5..
2 in the bag (barring DSQ, DNE's) I'd be resonably confident of 1 from Goody and 470's (M) outside chance: RS:X, 49ers, Laser (W) , 470 (W) Tornado / Star - no form to call, but watching Robert Scheidt round mark 1 race 1 a total of 4 minutes behind the leader, shows now much of a nightmare Qingdao is.. Unfortunate on the final leg for Percy but he'd sailed a pretty sensible conservative race up to then in some pretty cranky conditions.
Have to say Simmonds commentary plumbed new lows of inanity today. He doesn't seem to be offering a commentary, more vaguely connected white noise...could they not just put some music on and I can work out what's happening quite happily... how many times did we need to be told that John Dane was 58 and sailing with his son in law??????????? |

Official target is 4 medals. As you say, 2 in the bag now. Dempsey is getting better in every race, so I think he'll make the top 3, and the laser is so wide open that Goody has to looking good now he's at the top. I think Nick and Joe will hold on, and I fancy us to get one more (Iain and Bart maybe??). So my guess is 6. Bigger question is can we beat the Aussies? On current positions we have 3G, 1B, they have 3G, 1S - could be close! |

In fairness to simmonds, he has to think of something to say about pictures he is being shown by camera crews who don't seem to have a clue about sailing or what part of the race we want to see, as well as trying to come up with something that the non sailing public can relate to. Sad as it is, we sailors are in the minority. Besides that, what happened to Percy on the last leg, one moment he was 3rd and when I came back he was 7th |

He went left down the run......so did the portuguese who lost one place, and Iain seemed to go further left than them.
