Couldn't help noticing that, out of 202 entries in 6 classes at the RS 'EUROCUP' at Lake Garda, there were only 5, yes FIVE, non-British boats! I suppose you can call the event whatever you like - but EUROCUP?........ |

I agree to an extent but it sounds a lot better than 'brits on tour!' and is designed to attact foreign competitiors as and when RS break through into Europe.

I would have thought they would have broken into Europe by now. Most RS classes are about 10 years old. |

The Eurocup is the competition combining the results of the RS 'European' events of the year, which includes the week long event (which is at Garda every second year) and any other events. I agree that the use of the title 'European' is sometimes stretched a little (the RS800's had a Eurocup event at Largs this year). With respect to Garda sepcifically, with 202 entries (capped at that level, with the quota being filled in March!), frankly who cares! It was a fantastic event, despite not being a classic week for breeze.

The Iso event seems to justify the label. |

Indeed, though last year's was 10 British and one French boat. Still a long way from the Iso Eurocup of old, which consisted (for a few years) of multiple events in several European countries- look up the old newsletters on their website for more details.
I assume the right to hold a "European Championship" is something controlled by the ISAF, with requirements similar in set-up to the right to be International and thus hold a World Championships. The Eurocup name seems to be uncontrolled, and appears to get used (at times) as a label for a class European jolly (with the possibility of one or two local boats).
