Not backed off at all. Forgive me if I don't stand by with baited breath waiting for your mature replies! I wasn't being abusive, just trying to help with the bigger picture of purchasing a boat. The advice offered at the begining was refused with attitude and I couldn't be bothered to get involved in an argument. Wolverhampton isn't the best place to purchase your first keel boat, but i wouldn't give up on it. I stand by my recommendations that you should get some lessons and as others have suggested maybe take your time and enjoy your purchasing experience. You can't beat the feeling of owning your first boat - especially if you get to enjoy lots of weekends at the coast. Just my pennith worth - take it however you feel

A3xloser, I’ve come across guys in the same situation as you looking to buy a keelboat to learn in. Every time they have wasted money in their purchase because they didn’t know what they were looking for, and when they find the boat is not suitable for their needs/ability they blame the boat and give up sailing. I would swallow your pride learn how to sail (or at least have a go), then re-evaluate your criteria in what you want from a boat. I realise this is not an answer to your question, and I’m sure everyone else realised that. Since you are a newcomer to the sport this is merely a bit of friendly advice which in my opinion would benefit you. |

It seems as though many people understood that a3xloser wasn't prepared to learn, but I didn't read his original post in such a way. He simply said he wasn't after advice on how to sail (perhaps because he's got that part of the problem sorted out). However, no one asked him about the real condition of the boat he saw. He describes it as "boats in a fail condition". Does it mean there was a survey done? Maybe that's why the boat was so cheap. Or maybe it was a typo... Edited by Black no sugar |

The thing you lot miss, you are so up yourselves, he asked the question
was it worth the money and in your usual stuck up sanctimonious holier than thou bollox you collectively turn on him for being a newbie. You don't know anything about him, he could have a sailing instructor on hand ready to show him how to use it. Just like you gave me grief for daring to take the piss out of your collective consciousness, when seriously I have ten times the sailing experience of most of you and fifty times the rest, but hey steam in and hand out the crap and then wonder why this is the most boring forum in the world. Lucky for me I'm thick skinned enough to tough it out and have, despite your bollox, gleaned some excellent advice here, but never forget, it's just a bloody forum, a collection of opinions of folk from all walks of life and just like real life it is a tad out of order, demeaning folk for typo, grammatical or regional issues, if that is you're worried about a healthy collection of contributors, not just a hard core of prissy snotty twerps ruling the post count. Rant over, like the man said, "get a life ffs" And Asok W.t.f do you know, you sail a bloody cat, the lowest form of life. Edited by G.R.F |

Can i just ask why he has been banned?? I love reading GRF's threads they brought some life to what was becoming a boring forum. People just dont understand his humor and its a real shame. Yeah he is a bit of a troll but hey its all only in jest.

I've had to ban him because the vast majority of our forum readers find his posts offensive. Merlinboy, you haven't received the emails that I have about him from the readers. Yes, he has got his own way but most of the time he goes a step too far and it was turning people away in droves. There will be people who agree with what we've done and people who don't. That's just the way it goes. This case is now closed. |

Shame its turned out like this - I actually enjoy reading GRF's postings the rantings of a madman with some useful info brightens up many a thread. But I acknowledge that he may cause many people offence! I'm sure he'll return in some form or another! Just to put my some context to my posting - I currently sail a cat, have been a sailing instructor, worked in marinas for a living and cruised / raced yachts for many years. I'm no expert, but am happy to add my opinion - use the advice or ignore it - thats the reader choice not mine. I only added my opinion that training is pretty essential when the second poster recieved complete complete disregard for his posting - I agreed and thought that it was a pretty important post. |

thank you, yes my boat will be a moored floating caravan untill i am trained or have a skipper to take me out, "really irresponsible ""acting like a spoilt child*""Or maybe you're the type of person who doesn't need advice and will navigate with an AA road map and call the old comfort blanket of the RNLI on your nearly out of signal mobile phone! "Assuming this person is genuine and not a troll (it is school holidays after all) - you really do need to change your attitude or either you or worse, someone else, is going to end up drowning."
maybe not abusive but a bit harsh concidering i was only want to know about a boat not how to live my life, and banning GRF dear me, sailing the last great freedom loses free speech, you will all be wearing long sleave and collers after 7.30,and watching you don't brake any of the yacht club rules, |
