Once sailing a laser the boom skimed the back of my head mid tack and I sort of automaticaly ducked my head and headbuted the deck so ended up with a sore nose and back of head
If it doesn't break it's too heavy; if it does it wasn't built right

Today has to be up there with embarrassing moments. Came into land the 49er at the slip-way and when almost in we find out the daggerboard was jammed down. We couldn't get it up. So in our infinite wisdom we capsized the boat and spent half an hour trying to free the board with a boat breaker. Slot Gaskett must have expanded or something but it was fairly embarrassing spending so much time on our side with sweet F*A* wind.

OK - enough of these non-embarrassing embarrassing moments.

Here's the winner....Approaching the committee boat end of the line at the end of a lap.  Couldn't tack because of boats above me.  Quite happy that I can pinch up enough to make the IDM.  Suddenly realise that the IDM has disappeared.  Problem with cats is that the dagger boards are very close to the outside of the boat.  So the leeward dagger board catches the anchor warp of the IDM. Which causes the boat to bear away.  And drag the IDM with it.  Across the committee boat's anchor line.  And it continues to bear away.  Until it's lying alongside the committee boat, pointing dead down wind, sail powered up, port daggerboard still stuck on the IDM warp which has been dragged across the committee boat's anchor line.  Too much pressure on the dagger board for me to pull ilt up.  Only way out is for a rescue boat to pull me backwards away from the anchor line.  So rescue boat approaches - from in front of me.  While I'm still trying to lift the dagger board.  At which point a large wave passes through - and lifts the boat enough to free the dagger board.  Anyone dropped the clutch on a really fast car?  Well that was what it was like.  And I'm hanging on to the leeward dagger board rather than the tiller.  And the rescue boat is dead in front of me.  Fortunately the boat rounded up and missed the rescue boat by at least  5ft. Rescue boat manager would have been really p***ed if I'd hit it. Oh yeah, I was the rescue boat manager.....
