The one with just your boat in is February 1953 edition of Yachting World second pic of group of canoes is September 1953 of the same magazine. You might struggle to get back issues!!!

I have copy of the original photo of the group of canoes as the photographer is still alive and ran me off copies of about 30 photos he had of my boat in the 1950s. at least I now have another mission at boatjumbles and on ebay to search for 1953 YW |

We've come a long way haven't we, built in buoyancy, lifejackets, wetsuits, and now it's far too unsafe to race dinghies around the Isle of Wight!

When was this round the island dinghy raced stopped and why? It seems a shame I'd love to do a interesting event like that.

It turns out my grandfather who I never met, used to own an international 14 in the 1950's, its amusing how things come around! |

there's loads of races that have been knocked on the head because of health and safety.....Eastbourne used to do a race out to the Royal soveriegn light house and back. I believe it was one of the longest races going at the time. Recommendations from the RYA suggested that safety boat cover would be impossible but back in the good old days it was OK. |
